Lacrosse as a Start

5 against 1, originally uploaded by HEG Photography.

Had an opportunity to go to the Face Off Classic 2008 this past weekend. It was really a last minute decision for me. On the one hand watching lacrosse will feel a little different for me this year. On the other hand I wanted to show some support for the guys I used to coach. On of which was on the field in a Princeton Tiger uniform. It was not an easy decision to step away from coaching this year. Though I don’t miss the administrative mish mosh prior to the start of the season, I have missed the interaction with the players and the other coaches.

I knew that I would have to replace the coaching with something else that I love and I really have been focusing on taking more photographs. My group interactions on flickr and forcing myself to always carry my camera have literally tripled the number of photos that I take each month. I have recently been taking pictures playing around with three picture burst. On the one hand I have a better chance of missing some quirk in what I’m photographing. On the other hand it has taught me a lot about using the bracketing features on my camera. This photo is an example. In the first frame I took you really couldn’t see the player shooting. I liked this one more because, even though the fifth defender is blocked by the shooter you get a better sense that the midfielder is trapped and is taking a shot anyway.

Hope you enjoy!
